I went to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA yesterday. The new addition there is by an architect a few of you may know, Moshe Safdie, the guy who did that awful pretend contemporary art museum in Savannah. (But anyways that's not the point... although I did like the Salem one better, less white and more functional as a museum) At the museum they had a contemporary native american wing and a contemporary indian wing, the latter being highly disappointing, I'm not sure what the art scene is like or if there is one in india. Here are some shots from the contemporary native american wing. What do you guys think? It's nice to see something contemporary, let alone a whole permanent wing dedicated to native american art? Here are a few pieces from the exhibition:

Mateo Romero "In and around these mountains":

Douglas Miles "Skateboard Decks":

Stan Natchez "Bead painting":

and a cool installation by Nora Naranjo-Morse "Sugared-up: A Waffle Garden":

Isnt it ironic.....

so tuesday, while sitting on my rock in the middle of the river, enjoying the north carolina sun, my rooomate called me with some devastating news. my apartment on anderson st. was broken into when he was out of town (during a one day window when my friend wasn't over to check on my cat).

everything of value is gone. (TV, VCR/DVD, all movies, music, camera equipment, computer stuff, all my school work backed up digitally, all jewelry, my roommates bike, his camera, his music...the list goes on). they took the pillowcases and blankets off the bed and cleaned us out.

i think its pretty interesting considering the work i have done so far at SCAD has had a lot to do with my possessions and how i lug all these things around the country to make me feel at home. and how other people's possessions and what they leave behind defines them and their surroundings.

oh, and i kinda have to laugh. (because im a little twisted like that) they cleaned out ALL my camera gear and in the giant empty cabinet...sitting all alone...wondering where his friends went....was my friend's HOLGA. its so cheap, thieves wouldnt even take it for free.

i urge all of you to get renter's insurance. even if you dont think you have much stuff.

Hello all.

On Sunday I went to the Bodies Exhibition at South Street Seaport in NY. I don't know if any of you have seen it or even heard of it. My friend took me. It was one of the most fascinating things I have ever seen and at the same time it made me want to hurl. The exhibition slices and dices real human bodies to show all the systems of the body, the organs, and different stages of disease. These bodies are on display right out in the open, not under glass. I felt like I had walked into the lab of a mad scientist. It was better than any biology class I ever took in highschool. Here is the link http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com. It is definitely worth seeing if you can stomach it. The price is a bit steep though. It cost $27 and $5 for the audio guide, which was definitely worth the $5. It is not only in NY. It is also in Seattle, Las Vegas, London, Atlanta, and Tampa Bay. Go see it!
Don't eat lunch before you go. :)

Don't you wish you were this cool? How are the children supposed to learn how to read if they can't even fit inside the tent?

This is my newest performance piece, I call it "I am Bob Dylan" ( My friend justin plays the role of Allen Ginsberg) and the scene takes place at Jack Kerouac's grave in Lowell, MA (where everything is closed on mondays, so go on tuesday or something!) We both hum "We look down at you Jack, from six feet above."

I'm headin' West! I got an Artist-In-Residence in Breckinridge, Colorado this September. I'll be looking down at all of you from 10,000 feet! Melanie and I might also be going to Murray, KY. I have an interview with Murray State University coming up. It's a very exciting time. I'll post some new work soon. XOXOXO

While in NYC last I went to eat at a wonderful German restaurant called "Blaue Gans" located at 139 Duane Street in the financial district. I would say it was the best german food I have had outside of Germany, and to top it all off the whole place is done up in posters from big museum art shows in Germany. During dinner I also discovered that we had been seated right under Joseph Beuys!

Here are my new MPW images. I didn't actually take the pictures, but did painstakingly composite them in one evening of no sleep for Drew Gardner, a crazy mad british andy moxon-like photographer dude. So, now they are mine, officially. Hope all is well my Southern' homosapien chums.
